“Rest is resistance” – The Nap Ministry
Retreat describes a specific withdrawal from familiar or accustomed surroundings designed for relaxation and rest, in order to consciously change habits and everyday routines.
“Black Power Nap!” – Simon Dede Ayivi
From a racism-critical, decolonial perspective, retreats can happen with or without the inclusion of active spiritual practices and can also be a mental or physical site. The important thing is to find a space where we can be, let go and recover. The aim is not only to relax and come to rest, but also to formulate or sharpen thoughts or ideas, to get clarity about knowledge, to exchange knowledge or to produce it (together).
